Video Excerpt on the Transit Strike that Birthed the Po-Boy

Video excerpt from Streetcar Stories documentary featuring information and interviews about the 1929 transit strike in New Orleans [13min 30sec].

During the strike Bennie and Clovis Martin provided large sandwiches to the striking streetcar operators free of charge at Martin Brothers' Coffee Stand and Restaurant. Referring to the strikers as "poor boys", the Martin brothers worked with their baker to develop a new bread loaf for the sandwiches and a new sandwich was born.
